How to save all open tabs in Chrome

Updated

Press Ctrl+Shift+D (Cmd+Shift+D on a Mac) and Chrome saves every open tab as a bookmark in a new folder. Ctrl+Shift+T reopens tabs you just closed. Tabsafe, our tab saver, is on Edge and in review on Firefox, and there is no Chrome listing.

Chrome's built-in ways

  1. Bookmark all tabs. Press Ctrl+Shift+D (Cmd+Shift+D on a Mac). Chrome's support page says this saves all open tabs as bookmarks in a new folder. Give the folder the date.
  2. Reopen what you closed. Ctrl+Shift+T reopens previously closed tabs in the order they were closed.
  3. Continue where you left off. In Settings, under "On startup", this reopens last session's tabs when Chrome starts.

These cost nothing and need no extension. Their gap is that bookmarks capture one moment, lose pinned state and groups, and depend on you remembering to press the keys.

When you want an extension

An extension can save for you as you work, keep named sessions you can reopen later, and log closed tabs. For Chrome, OneTab, Session Buddy and Workona all have listings; our alternatives guide compares them.

Where Tabsafe fits

Tabsafe saves a snapshot of every open window after each change and every 15 minutes, lets you name a session and use Save and close on one window or all of them, and logs the tabs you close. Free keeps 14 days. It needs no account and keeps snapshots in your browser, plus an optional backup file in Downloads.

It is on Microsoft Edge Add-ons now, its Firefox version is in store review, and it has no Chrome listing. If you use Chrome, use the built-in ways above or one of the Chrome extensions named. Tabsafe will not help you there.

Tabsafe grows from what people ask for. If saving tabs in Chrome is what you need from it, say so on the roadmap page.
