Tabsafe vs OneTab
OneTab is the best-known tab saver, with about 2 million users and no paid tier. Tabsafe is new and adds automatic snapshots, a closed-tab log, optional backup files kept outside the browser, plus an import for OneTab exports.
Facts about OneTab were checked on 3 October 2026. Tabsafe is our own tool, so read the table with that in mind, and check the vendor pages before you buy.
| Topic | OneTab | Tabsafe |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free. We found no paid tier | Free; Pro is €12 for a year or €29 once. Nothing renews |
| Free tier | All of it | Automatic snapshots and a closed-tab log kept 14 days, restore, search, 5 named sessions, Back up now, import OneTab and Session Buddy exports. Pro keeps history 365 days, writes scheduled backup files, exports the full history and compares snapshots |
| Where your data goes | Kept locally in the browser's extension storage. It has an export of one url | title per line (reported) | Snapshots stay in your browser, and Pro backup files are normal files in your Downloads folder. Nothing is sent unless you activate Pro (the licence key) or press Send on the suggestion form |
| Login needed | None that we found | No account |
| Reports of lost lists | Firefox one-star reviews from August and September 2026 say all tabs were gone after an update, and that data was wiped when free disk space fell below 10 GB | Tabsafe is new and has no track record. Its answer is automatic snapshots, and on Pro a scheduled backup file outside the browser profile, which an update cannot reach |
| Moving your lists | Exports as text. Group names, lock and star state are not in the text export | Imports that text export. The same state is missing, so groups arrive as plain lists. Pro can export as OneTab text |
| Browsers | Chrome and Firefox, among others | Microsoft Edge and Firefox, on desktop |

When OneTab is the better pick
Pick OneTab if you want the tool most people already use. It has about 2 million users and a 4.4 store rating, years of use behind it, and it costs nothing. If you keep your own export now and then, its risk is smaller.
When Tabsafe is the better pick
Pick Tabsafe if losing a saved list would cost you real work, and you want automatic snapshots, scheduled backup files outside the browser on Pro, and an import so you can leave OneTab without retyping anything.
Moving from OneTab
In OneTab choose Export URLs, save the text, then paste it into Tabsafe or choose the file. Another extension cannot read OneTab's storage, so the export is the only route.
